The latest update in genetics (Slides)
Dr. Raymond Kim
Dr. Kim is the geneticist at the Zane Cohen Centre for Digestive Diseases and other hereditary cancer clinics in downtown Toronto. He will review the latest updates in the Federal law to prevent genetic discrimination, new testing families suspected of having Lynch syndrome, and the emerging genetic repair technology called CRISPR.

 
 
Immunotherapy - a new therapy to treat Lynch Syndrome cancers?  (Slides)
Dr. Uri Tabori
Dr. Tabori is an oncologist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and head of an international consortium for
children who inherit Lynch syndrome from both sides of the family. He runs a clinical trial for immunotherapy,
which is a new type of drug that may be an important therapy to treat Lynch syndrome cancers.

 
Stomach cancer and screening in Lynch Syndrome (Slides
Dr. Savtaj Brar
Dr. Brar is a surgical oncologist at Mount Sinai Hospital and heads up a high-risk screening program for families at
risk for developing stomach cancer. He will review stomach cancer and discuss whether screening is needed in
Lynch syndrome families.

Dr. Rob Gryfe
Dr. Gryfe is a colorectal surgeon and scientist at Mount Sinai Hospital. His clinical and research interests include
understanding how hereditary conditions affect the risk of developing cancer and polyps, as well as cancer

Dr. Carol Durno
Dr. Carol Durno is a pediatric gastroenterologist at the Hospital for Sick Children and Scarborough Centenary Hospital, with an interest in caring for children, teenagers and families with familial polyposis.  Dr Durno is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto. She is involved with various research projects in the FGICR with a special interest in polyposis and biallelic mismatch repair deficiency.

Dr. Erin Kennedy

Dr. Erin Kennedy is a Colorectal Surgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital and researcher at Mount Sinai’s Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute focusing on patient centered care and shared decision making in surgery. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation.

Dr. Carroll is a family physician at Sinai Health System, as well as the Sydney G Frankfort Chair in Family Medicine and a Professor and Clinician Scientist in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at U of T.   She spoke at our very first education night in 2003 and has been a leader in educating primary care providers about hereditary conditions.

Description: Dr. Gryfe is a colorectal surgeon and scientist at Mount Sinai Hospital.  He has completed several studies on Lynch syndrome and will discuss the latest research on cancer risk, screening and prevention in Lynch syndrome.

Urinary tract cancer – symptoms, screening and treatment
Speaker: Dr. Jeff Spodek

Description: Dr. Spodek is the Chief of Urology at the Rouge Valley Health System. He works at the Centenary site in Scarborough, Ontario.  He completed his medical training at the University of Western Ontario in 1998 and completed his fellowship training in Urology in 2003 at the University of Western Ontario.  He will be giving an overview on the types of urinary tract cancers seen in Lynch syndrome including kidney, ureter and bladder cancers.

Speaker: Brent Mizzen

Description: Brent Mizzen is Director, Policy Development for the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA). He is responsible for policy development and analysis on industry issues as well as responses to policy demands from government.  Brent will give us the background on insurance and genetic testing, how companies assess individuals for insurance policies, and what the industry's position is on genetic testing.
