Genetic Counsellor
Kara Semotiuk, MS, (C)CGC, received a Master of Science degree in Genetic Counselling from Sarah Lawrence College in 2000 and prior to that an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in genetics from the University of Western Ontario in 1998. In 2000 she joined the prenatal genetics department at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY as a clinical genetic counsellor.
In 2003 Kara joined the Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry (FGICR) at Mount Sinai Hospital where she continues to work as a clinical genetic counsellor working with families that have hereditary gastrointestinal cancer and polyposis. Additionally, she is involved with a number of research studies related to hereditary colorectal cancer, polyposis and pancreas cancer. Kara has an appointment at the University of Toronto where she is involved with the genetic counselling program as a clinical supervisor for the Master’s students and in reviewing new applications for the program. In 2002 she was certified in Genetic Counselling by both the American Board of Genetic Counseling and the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors. Centre Contact |
